Keeowee-Toxaway State Natural Area and Clemson Botanical Gardens

These pictures are out of order, because I went to the gardens the week before the Lake, but it doesn't matter, does it? This above is Lake Toxaway. Yes, there are fish in it! And some excellent lakeside camping sites!

Waterfall on the trails near the lake. The trails where I got turned around somehow and got to hike the same steep uphill section twice. Hooray! :)


South Carolina Botanical Gardens, Clemson

This is a historical building called the Hunt Cabin. It's really tiny, and the sign I was standing next to at this time discussed how this was a typically modest upstate plantation owner's home in contrast to the huge mansion-type plantation homes in the low country (see Charleston post). According to the garden website, "During the early years, the Hunt Cabin was visited by many travelers. General Andrew Pickens, a good friend of the Hunts, spent many nights in their home. Legend has it that during the Civil War, General Sherman spent a night at the cabin, and thus spared it from the torch during his long campaign in the South."

Vegas, compared to magnolia flower! My favorite flower! She is not impressed, however.

Vegas met ducks. And dragonflies. And bees. Lots of bees.
